Organizations often allow attendees to fundraise to cover the cost of their event ticket, lowering the barrier to entry for an event. In these cases, attendees are expected to raise an amount equal to or greater than the ticket value. For attendees who do not meet this fundraising requirement, Event.Gives offers a Peer Round Up feature.
For peer-to-peer events, you can apply a Peer Round Up threshold to a specific ticket. For example, if a ticket costs $100, you can sell it for $10 and enter $90 in the Peer Round Up field. This allows the attendee to fundraise the remaining balance through their peer page.
If the supporter does not raise the remaining $90, clicking the Peer Round Up button will add a $90 donation to the supporter’s cart to cover the full ticket cost. If the supporter raises a portion of the remaining balance—for example, $10—then clicking the Peer Round Up button will add an $80 donation to their cart instead.
The purpose of this feature is to allow peer page owners to fundraise toward the cost of their ticket while ensuring that, if they do not meet the minimum fundraising threshold, the full ticket cost is still covered.
The Peer Round Up feature bulk-adds the difference between the ticket cost and the amount fundraised to the carts of attendees who did not meet the fundraising threshold. Follow the steps below to learn how to use the Peer Round Up feature for your next event.
Utilizing The Peer Round Up Feature
1. First, enter in your peer round up thresholds to the desired tickets. To do so, click into the ticket and locate the "Peer Round Up" field, shown below.
3. For this example the tickets total value is $110. The ticket will be sold for $10 with the intention that the ticket purchaser will create a peer page and attempt to fundraise for the remaining amount, which in this example is $100.
*Please note: It is your responsibility to clearly communicate fundraising expectations to supporters, including notifying them that if they do not meet the minimum fundraising requirement, they will be charged the remaining balance accordingly. We suggest adding verbiage to the ticket description that reiterates the expectations.
4. When you are ready to charge the peer round up threshold, navigate to the 'Donations' tab.
For this example, Angie White has raised $80 total through her peer page, pictured below. Therefore, after using the peer round up feature she should have a $20 donation in her cart.
5. At the top of the 'Donations' tab, locate and click the "Peer Minimum Donation Round Up" button.
6. After clicking the "Peer Minimum Donation Round Up" button, the below pop-up will appear. After reviewing the message, click "Confirm."
7. After completing the steps above, you will see these "Peer Round Up" donations added below on the 'Donations' tab. The "Purpose" for each of these donation(s) will be labeled "Peer Round Up" in order to differentiate from a general donation or pledge.
It is important to note that if a supporter purchases two tickets in the above example, they will be expected to meet the peer round-up fundraising amount for each ticket unless a ticket is reassigned to another supporter.
For example, if I purchase two $10 tickets, each with an expected fundraising amount of $100, and I neither fundraise nor reassign either ticket to another peer, a $200 donation would be added to my cart when the event organizer uses the peer round-up feature.
