If you are looking to split an items cost between two of your attendees you are in the right place! This workaround will allow you to split the cost of an item by duplicating the item and changing the final bid and/or final cost.
Splitting The Cost Of An Auction Item
1. If you would like to split the cost of an item between two attendees, you will first need to locate the item within the 'Items' tab, shown below:
2. After locating the item you would like to split between two attendees, you will click the button containing the ellipses (three dots within the circle). This will prompt a drop-down, where you will click the "Un-Publish" button. Once the item is un-published, you will see an eye icon with a line through it, shown below:
3. Once you have unpublished the item, you will want to click the ellipses again and then click "Copy Item." After doing so, you will see a duplicate of this item at the bottom of your 'Items' tab. After the copy of the item appears, you will click the ellipsis and un-publish this item as well so it is not visible to active bidders on your event site.
4. Next, you will erase the bids on the item containing bids. To erase current bids you will click the "4 bids" verbiage shown below:
5. After doing so, you will see the current bids on this item, shown below. Following the arrow pictured below, you will want to click the trash can icon for each bid, starting at the bottom and working your way to the top until there are no bids remaining.
6. After erasing the current bids, you will want to divide the total by two and place a bid on behalf of the first user for this amount. For this example, Madelaine and Christian are looking to split this $356 auction item. Therefore, we will need to divide $356 by 2 which amounts to $178.
7. Now that you have your split cart amount for each user, we will need to place two separate bids for the amount of $178. To do so, we will locate the initial auction item that we erased the bids from. Once you have located the item, you will click the ellipses and select "Place Bid," which prompts the screen pictured below. You will then enter the first bidders phone number OR email in order to populate the users account. For this example, we will search Christian by his phone number.
8. After the user is populated, you will enter the split cart amount into the green box and then click the blue "Place Bid" button, shown below. For this example, we will enter $178 into the green box.
*Please Note: If you receive an error message regarding the bid being too low, you will need to click into your item to edit the minimum bid. For more information on editing auction items, click here.
9. Once your bid is placed, you will click the ellipses on this item and select "Close Item," which will place this item in the users cart in order for them to complete this transaction.
10. Next, we will locate the copied auction item and repeat steps 7 through 9 for the second bidder. Therefore, once you have located the second copied item you will click the ellipses and select "Place Bid."
11. When the screen pops up prompting you to search a user, you will enter the email OR phone number for the second user. For this example, we will search Madelaine by her phone number.
12. After the user is populated, you will enter the split cart amount into the green box and then click the blue "Place Bid" button, shown below. For this example, we will enter $178 into the green box.
13. After you have completed step 12, you will click the ellipses once more and select "Close Item" which will place this item in the users cart in order for them to complete this transaction.
